POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
|
|
|
|
Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and Administration, the Environmental Health and Safety Officer will provide leadership in both the academic and administrative areas of the College regarding all environmental, health and safety issues. The Officer will monitor application and enforcement of all federal, state and local regulations concerning hazardous materials including asbestos, air borne pathogens, and all other physical and biological agents which may be injurious.
The Officer shall perform the following tasks:
• Select and implement techniques for identification of hazards, assessing risks and conduct investigations.
• Establish safety design requirements or criteria to eliminate or control safety-related risk.
• Assess system compliance with safety design orders.
• Assess a design's adequacy to minimize loss resulting from accidents.
• Administer the College's biotech, chemical and industrial radiation waste disposal programs.
• Periodically inspect all facilities including research and institutional laboratories to ensure safe conditions and operational techniques.
• Serve as a coordinator between faculty and administration in all projects, renovations and otherwise, relating to safety standards.
• Assist the administration in the planning and formulating of policies for new facilities.
• Serve as liasion to CUNY Central Office in all matters relating to health and safety regulations.
• Conduct Right-to-Know and other training as required.
• Implement systems to track Environmental Health and Safety Reporting requirements and ensure timely submission of such by the institution.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
|
|
|
A Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience are required. A Master's degree in industrial hygiene or related field plus four years experience is also acceptable. Professional Engineer or Certified Industrial Hygienist is preferred. The successful candidate will have excellent oral and written communications skills, as well as experience working in a multi-culturally diverse work environment.
