POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES




The Director of the Pre-Law Institute reports to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and oversees the coordination and implementation of the College's pre-law initiatives. The Director is the principal college administrator responsible for the management, direction and implementation of the program.

The principal responsibilities of the Director include managerial, consultative, informational, evaluative and liaison functions:

    • Establish and implement a comprehensive law school advisement model which begins in the freshman year.
    • Develop, recommend and implement goals and objectives of the Office of Pre-Law Programs including support of Pre-Law Advisory Board and Law Society.
    • Develop and implement mentoring, internship and other opportunities that support students’ professional goals including organizing pre-law advisement forums and workshops.
    • Collect, analyze and report programmatic data and departmental activities in support of program evaluation and outcomes assessment; recommend changes based on findings.
    • Design and create law school advisement materials, publications, newsletter and website.
    • Oversee undergraduate student and alumni advising and counseling regarding academic and extra-curricular preparation.
    • Act as a student advocate and liaison to law schools.
    • Work with faculty to organize and implement Pre-Law Boot Camp and Moot Court Competition.
    • Provide advisement and guidance for LSAT preparation, personal statements, referrals for recommendation, and the general application process.
    • Oversee and coordinate the faculty advisement component through outreach to appropriate faculty and alumni to add depth to law school advisement.
    • Seek and write grant proposals for new development initiatives.
    • Establish strong relationships with relevant law schools and visit campuses.
    • Attend forums, meetings, panels, and annual conferences.
    • Join National Association of Pre-Law Advisors.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS




Baccalaureate degree and at least six years of experience in higher education administration or related program development required (master's degree or JD strongly preferred). Excellent written, oral communication and computer skills required. Ability to function well in an energetic and creative team environment; a commitment to serving a diverse, urban student population; and ability to work effectively with students, members of the college community, and external constituents, such as Law School deans and bar associations, required.
