POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

The Board of Trustees of The City University of New York and the Presidential Search Committee invite nominations and applications for the position of president of Baruch College.

Located in Manhattan, the world’s financial and cultural center, Baruch College was established 90 years ago and is one of the most competitive of the senior colleges in the CUNY system. A thriving, urban, multicultural institution, Baruch attracts motivated students of proven achievement who are seriously committed to making their dreams a reality. Baruch is home to the largest collegiate business school in the country, the Zicklin School of Business, as well as the Mildred and George Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Public Affairs, which has been increasingly recognized in national rankings. Each of the three schools offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees, and CUNY’s Ph.D. programs in business and industrial/organizational psychology are housed at Baruch. The highly ranked business program has a strong liberal arts foundation and has produced many of the nation's corporate business leaders.

Baruch’s students represent more than 160 countries; this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Baruch among “the most diverse colleges in the United States.” Baruch enrolls over 12,500 undergraduates, most of whom attend full-time and 80 percent of whom major in a business discipline while taking half of their courses in the liberal arts. Its 3,500 graduate students include those in its prestigious MBA program, as well as those in master’s programs in public administration, education administration, and arts and sciences. Approximately 500 full-time faculty teach at the college, many of them internationally recognized scholars.

In 2001, the college opened its 17-floor Newman Vertical Campus, honored by the American Institute of Architects with its highest award for an individual building. Directly opposite the Newman Vertical Campus is the 330,000-square-foot William and Anita Newman Library, which won the Association of College and Research Libraries Excellence Award in 2003. The college’s annual budget is $200 million, and the Baruch College Fund’s assets are $120 million.

The chancellor and the college seek a visionary, committed, strategic, and influential leader who will focus on guiding Baruch to a new era of achievement. Specific opportunities and challenges include increasing the level of excellence across all programs, building the college’s national reputation, strengthening connections to Manhattan’s business community, and further increasing the college’s endowment and developing its extensive alumni base.
