POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES | ||
The City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. A member of the Chancellor’s cabinet, reporting directly to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and University Provost, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs is expected to create, enhance, support, and coordinate activities that foster student success. The Vice Chancellor will oversee student affairs for a university system that comprises 23 colleges and professional schools across the five boroughs of New York City and enrolls more than 250,000 degree-seeking students. The Vice Chancellor will provide system-wide leadership in areas such as career services, child care, counseling, student health, athletics, disability services, veterans’ affairs, and residential life. S/he will be responsible for various University initiatives, including the Leadership Academy, the University’s opportunity programs, the University Student Senate, and the Black Male Initiative. The Vice Chancellor will also chair CUNY’s Chief Student Affairs Officers Council and staff the Board of Trustees Committee for Student Affairs. | ||
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS | ||
• A terminal degree and at least twelve years of relevant administrative experience in an institution of higher learning • A compelling vision of the future of higher education with regard to the academic, developmental, and career needs of students • The executive skills, leadership qualities, expertise, and academic standing to manage the student affairs portfolio with efficacy, strategic vision, and intellectual vitality • The ability to foster a value-added educational experience for students that transcends the classroom • The ability to advance new approaches to serving students through enhanced use of technology and other innovations • A demonstrated commitment to pluralism and diversity • The personal attributes needed to relate well with students | ||
