POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

The primary responsibilities of this position are to:

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics and mathematics education;

• Supervise teacher candidates in mathematics education;

• Serve on doctoral committees at CUNY’s Graduate Center when needed;

• Advise undergraduate and graduate candidates in mathematics and mathematics education;

• Engage in scholarly research and publication;

• Participate in curriculum revision/development;

• Advise students majoring in mathematics and secondary education;

• Assist in efforts to recruit and retain mathematics and secondary education students; and

• Actively participate in meetings of appropriate professional organizations such as AMTE, NCTM, or PME.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Requirements:
Applicants must have an earned doctorate or be within one semester of completing doctorate by the job start date, and must have an emphasis in mathematics education;

Applicants should have:

• Ability to work with a diverse professional community;

• potential for research and grant writing;

• Familiarity with standards based curriculum and performance-based teacher education assessments; and

• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Requirements:

• Doctorate degree in mathematics education;

• Experience in working with diverse students in urban secondary schools, especially in middle schools.
