The University has an opportunity to build its workforce, especially within the faculty ranks. Recognizing that a diverse faculty enriches the quality of teaching and research, promotes intellectual vibrancy and enhances the learning/teaching experience, CUNY is seeking a chief diversity officer to lead the diversity change process and achieve sustainable diversity goals. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of the Office of Human Resources Management and working closely with the University Office of Academic Affairs, the University Dean will support the University’s recruitment and retention initiatives with a special emphasis on faculty diversity.
The University Dean for Recruitment and Diversity is responsible for promoting the University’s goal of a diverse workforce by visibly providing strong leadership and commitment to diversity, broadening outreach and recruitment, strengthening institutional diversity infrastructures, developing strategic diversity plans, cultivating diversity awareness and appreciation, monitoring success, and offering support to underrepresented employees once they join the University. Specifically, the Dean has responsibility for supervision of the following areas: compliance; affirmative action; diversity; and faculty publication program awards.
The Office of Recruitment and Diversity will work collaboratively with the University community, to:
• Recognize and promote diversity as a core value of the institution and a critical component of the inclusive excellence initiatives. This will include sharing research and metrics that demonstrate the value of living, working and learning in a diverse environment.
• Promote strategic academic practices which foster the hiring and development of a diverse workforce through broad and meaningful outreach to the University’s protected groups.
• Engage with faculty and academic leaders, to create innovative programs to support and retain members of the University’s protected classes.
• Promote measurable diversity goals.
• Measure results within the University’s accountability systems.
