POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES




Lehman College of The City University of New York is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President/Chief Information Officer. The VP/CIO is expected to articulate a vision and play a major leadership role in organizing, managing and strengthening the information technology infrastructure to support and transform the administrative and instructional areas as well as support the mission and vision of Lehman College.
The VP/CIO is responsible for all aspects of information technology for academic, administrative and research functions including: the campus-wide data and voice networks, software systems in mainframe, server and personal computer environment; IT support for faculty teaching and research activities; participation in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) initiative; telecommunication services; IT security; Academic IT Center; and the Multimedia Center. S/he ensures an integrated approach to all internal computing, media, and communications technology services, develops policies and procedures based on best practices, and oversees the financial management for the departments, programs and services that comprise the Information Technology Division. The VP/CIO reports to the President and is a member of the President’s Cabinet.

The responsibilities of this position include:

    • Provide leadership and manage the daily operations of the Division of Information Technology, which includes Media Technology Support Services; Academic and Campus Support Services; Applications Systems, Web Development, and Database Administration; and Networks, Servers, and Advanced Systems Support Services.
    • Implement goals expressed in the College’s Strategic Plan, University/College Goals and Targets, and other planning initiatives.
    • Plan and manage all academic, research and administrative information technology at the College, including system and software acquisitions, network design and implementation, and the delivery of information technology services in online learning, classroom technology, media distribution/conferencing, research, student support, and administrative functions.
    • Manage and oversee the implementation, upgrade and future build-out of the College's network infrastructure to ensure stability, reliability, and security of College systems, data, applications and information, as well as meet changing technology demands of various stakeholders of the College.
    • Recommend long-range and short-range management information systems plans, budgets and potential funding sources to the President and other college leadership.
    • Establish guidelines and programs based on best practices for effective information technology management.
    • Provide strong, collaborative, forward thinking, and responsive leadership in information technology and telecommunication development and services, and learning services to support the academic and administrative mission and goals of the College.
    • Research, recommend and implement emerging technologies, creating an environment fostering innovative teaching and learning with technology.
    • Collaborate with college personnel in the development and delivery of online courses, and graduate and undergraduate distance education programs (credit and non-credit).
    • Develop a proactive, creative and collaborative environment to ensure that technology solutions are meeting changing demands within the College.
    • Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and reengineer work processes to ensure that the strategic objectives of the College can be adequately supported and delivered through the use of cutting edge technology.
    • Actively research and pursue grant opportunities to support instructional technology initiatives. Encourage and support collective, cross-divisional efforts in identifying, cultivating and securing off-campus sources of support for information technology.
    • Collaborate with the University CIO in the implementation of enterprise-wide technology solutions and services that will produce strategic, operational, technology and cost benefits to the College, such as the University-wide ERP initiative, and represent the College on Central Office committees and projects such as the City University IT Steering Committee.
    • Administer and manage the Student Technology Fee program which supports improvements to student technology equipment and services.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS




A Master’s degree in an IT-related field plus eight years of related experience required. An advanced degree in a relevant field is preferred. The successful candidate will have significant management experience that includes strategic planning, budget and personnel management, in-depth knowledge of computer, network and security systems and operations, student information systems, media technology, telephone systems, networking and wireless technology, and an understanding of the unique requirements and challenges of administrative and academic technology in higher education. S/he will also be familiar with emerging technologies and new trends and applications of information technology in higher education, as well as best practices in the management of information technologies, systems analysis, design and operation. Experience with PeopleSoft databases and implementation and migration of a student information system, finance and human resource systems (or similar ERP system) desirable.

Prior success in securing external funding for instructional and research technology is desirable coupled with a proven record as a leader and executive who has transformed information technology operations within a large and diverse organization. Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to express complex technology concepts in a clear, concise manner; experience developing and managing strategic technology with administrative and instructional systems, and a proven track record of implementing distance based learning initiatives are desirable. A clear information technology vision, creative thinking, collaborative management style, and the ability to foster long-term relationships with the College’s many constituencies are critical to the success of the prospective candidate.

Appointment Rank and Compensation: This position is in The City University of New York Executive Compensation Pay Plan. The appointment rank is Vice President. Excellent benefits package and competitive salary.
