POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES




The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research supports faculty to enable them to achieve recognition in research and scholarship, and obtaining significant funding for recruitment and research instrumentation. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research, the Research Programs Manager/Grant Writer will lead the grant writing and extramural funding search activities, with a major responsibility of writing and editing grant proposals for submission to funding agencies through the Request for Proposals (RFP) process and other opportunities. The Research Programs Manager/Grant Writer will formalize procedures to effectively shepherd grant proposals from preparation to submission in a complex university system. The immediate focus of this position will be researching opportunities available through the Federal Stimulus Package (American Reinvestment and Recovery Act).

Specific duties will include but are not limited to:

    • Develop, write, and edit grant proposals for faculty and staff, proofread all supporting materials, and recommend constructive changes.
    • Review final versions of grant proposals and supporting documents to ensure compliance with funding agency format and requirements, and University guidelines.
    • Develop and implement strategies to identify and research available funding opportunities from various sources, such as government and non-government agencies, private institutions, and donors.
    • Facilitate outreach efforts to faculty and staff members to communicate upcoming government, corporate and foundation funding opportunities and partner with them to develop fundable proposals.
    • Prepare and finalize federal, state and private foundation budget reports and associated forms.
    • Review funding agency-specific guidelines regarding grant eligibility, deadlines, certifications, and approvals required for proposals and stay current on proposal submission processes, procedures and systems.
    • Participate in managing and administering the University's overall grant application process.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS




A Bachelor’s Degree and six (6) years of grant writing experience are required. The successful candidate will have:

    • Extensive grant writing experience in a complex academic setting, especially as the primary author of successful grants.
    • Experience conducting research to identify new funding prospects.
    • Experience writing applications, letters of inquiry, grant reports, and managing programs and budgets.
    • Experience submitting federal grants online through agencies such as the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, United States Department of Education, etc.
    • Knowledge of grant research sources, government entities, and corporations.
    • Experience using current web applications and technologies, listservs, newsgroups, and search engines to collect or distribute information.
    • Experience with contracts and grants research administration, including the ability to understanding complex and/or detailed documents such as proposals, contracts, policies, and procedures.
    • Exceptional writing and editing skills, plus strong verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical, evaluative and objective critical thinking skills.
    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, manage multiple demands and projects, and meet deadlines.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels of faculty, staff and constituents.
